“ I know that without her knowledge, I would not have had the courage to move school districts and advocate for a better education for Shyla. I am so grateful for Ms. Joy! ”

"My daughter Shyla has been working with Ms. Joy for two and a half years. The first year and a half was teaching her the basics from a standpoint where no one else has been able to teach her before. Her school was teaching her from a very basic learning disability standpoint that covered an array of learning techniques but they were not dyslexic certified educators. Last year, we moved to a new school district that supported dyslexic learning and used similar tools and techniques as Ms. Joy. Together with what Shyla was learning in school and what she was learning with Ms. Joy, I could see a big change in her confidence in reading and writing......

She works independently on the computer now, can write stories (with assistance), and she even has a cell phone where she texts her friends with confidence! In her latest IEP, she was graded two levels higher than she was a year before. We still have a lot of work to do to get Shyla to where she needs to be academically, but I am confident that with the work Ms. Joy continues to do, Shyla will get there! I am so proud of how far Shyla has come. She is now in 6th grade and has a 3.8 GPA overall! During the time I have worked with Ms. Joy, she has helped me navigate everything from school IEP’s to learning about the intricacies of a newly diagnosed medical condition contributing to Shyla’s dyslexia. Ms. Joy’s knowledge has been very helpful in talking to professionals regarding Shyla’s learning and advocating for her. I know that without her knowledge, I would not have had the courage to move school districts and advocate for a better education for Shyla. I am so grateful for Ms. Joy!”

“She customizes each lesson to suit my children's unique learning needs and pace."

"We began Tutoring with Ms. Joy in 2022 when my oldest, then in 4th grade, was struggling with reading. He has Dyslexia tendencies, which makes reading difficult and unenjoyable for him. However, with Ms. Joy, he was soon reading at grade level, a huge milestone! Seeing his progress, we also enrolled my two daughters. My youngest, in Kindergarten at the time, had similar struggles, but by 1st grade, she was not only reading well but absolutely loooving it....

My oldest daughter, who had difficulty blending sounds, also thrived thanks to Ms. Joy’s fun, memory-building techniques. What I appreciate most about Ms. Joy is how she customizes each lesson to suit my children's unique learning needs and pace. Her personalized, flexible approach has greatly impacted their progress. After over two years, my 1st, 5th, and 6th graders have made impressive strides in reading. Ms. Joy updates us regularly on their growth, and my kids have developed a strong, enjoyable relationship with her. The sessions are interactive, and my kids stay engaged and have become more independent readers. Scheduling has been a team effort, but the commitment has paid off, and I couldn’t be happier with their success. I also appreciate knowing that my kids aren't just memorizing words; they can explain the spelling rules they've learned, which is helping them become stronger, more independent readers."

“ Her dedication and expertise are unmatched.”

"Ms. Joy has been an incredible blessing for my children’s education. Her structured literacy approach truly helped my kids grasp the fundamentals they needed to become confident, successful readers. Instead of relying on memorization, Ms. Joy used specialized techniques that equipped them with the skills and tools to decode and understand language effectively. The progress they’ve made is remarkable, and I am beyond grateful for the solid foundation she’s given them. Her dedication and expertise are unmatched, and I highly recommend her to any family looking to empower their children with strong literacy skills. I would highly recommend Ms. Joy! Best investment I ever made for my children’s education."

“As a homeschool mom, stuck in a school district that offered no help for my son.. I am thankful to have found such a dedicated and knowledgeable tutor that forever helped my son.. ”

"My son Caleb has been with Ms. Joy for over 2 years. We found her by accident and we are so blessed to have found her! When Caleb (age 11) started lessons with Ms. Joy, his dyslexia was very severe. He struggled with every word he would try to read. It would take 30 minutes to read just one page of a kindergarten level reader. Slowly, but surely, over the next two years, Caleb would grow so much in his reading abilities. He would sometimes seem to have setbacks and other times - seem to forget everything he learned. But Ms. Joy never gave up on him. Now he can read his 6th grade level school work! He still struggles some, but the improvements are incredible. Ms. Joy was encouraging when Caleb wanted to give up. She would smile and laugh and play games and hooray! when he would get the right answers. His confidence has tripled! I, as Caleb's mom am grateful for all the work and investment Ms. Joy has put into my son's learning. As a homeschool mom, stuck in a school district that offered no help for my son because of his age, I am so thankful to have found such a dedicated and knowledgeable tutor that forever has helped my son. Thank you Ms Joy from both Caleb and myself."

“ Ms. Joy has a true passion for figuring out each child’s reading difficulties and teaching them skills in ways they undersand. ”

"My children have been working with Ms. Joy for just over a year now. They have gone from frustrated, stumbling readers to more confident, active readers! Seeing this transformation and the progress they have made is incredible. This has been a learning adventure for all of us; Ms. Joy has a true passion for figuring out each child’s reading difficulties and teaching them skills in ways they understand. Classes are fun, interactive, and easy for the kids to navigate on their own. Homework assignments between classes build on the skills learned and Ms. Joy explains everything to me, so I feel confident helping them. Working with Ms. Joy takes commitment as it is a team effort to teach, learn, and practice reading skills for retention and fluency. It is worth every minute of work when your child starts reading independently for pleasure and not just when they have to for schoolwork. We are so happy we found Ms. Joy!”

“ She is so knowledgeable about all aspects of literacy and is able to explain and pass that information on. ”

"My daughter, Cora, has been working with Ms. Joy for about a year. During that time her language skills - being able to read/sound out words, comprehension, and spelling - have improved by leaps and bounds. While short, Ms. Joy’s lessons are effective and memorable. I regularly hear and see Cora using the skills she has learned in class during her free time and schoolwork. As a homeschooling parent, Ms Joy has been wonderful! She is an excellent communicator and collaborator. She is so knowledgeable about all aspects of literacy and is able to explain and pass that information on, along with being an encyclopedia of books, websites, and other resources. Her passion for what she does shines! I would not hesitate to recommend her wholeheartedly!

"My daughter Samantha started with Miss Joy in the fall of 2021, in 2nd grade. We homeschool and learned she was dyslexic so an at-home, Zoom program was a great fit. “ Thank you for your hard work with my son. You help set him on an entirely different path. ”

"I am writing this letter regarding our experience with our son’s reading tutor, Ms. Joy. Ms. Joy helped our son with reading strategies, fluency, comprehension, and accuracy. The growth we’ve seen in our son has exceeded our expectations, to put it mildly. At the beginning of this process, our son really struggled while reading and would quickly become frustrated and discouraged to the point of tears at times. Now he has a bookshelf full of chapter books that he reads by choice and is developing preferences as to the types of stories he enjoys. Thank you for your hard work with my son. You help set him on an entirely different path."
