InferCabulary Engaging Vocabulary Instruction for Grades 3-12

InferCabulary is a web-based program that helps students expand their vocabulary through images and critical thinking. Instead of memorising definitions, students infer word meanings from various contexts and examples, leading to a deeper understanding and better retention of new words.

How Does It Help?

InferCabulary is particularly beneficial for students with visual surface dyslexia—those who struggle with irregular or unfamiliar words like “yacht,” “colonel,” or “island.” The program supports students who have difficulty with:
Reading new or long words.
Understanding words that do not sound as they are spelled (e.g., “chaos,” “walk,” “laugh”).
Remembering word meanings.
Overcoming reading obstacles and getting stuck on repeated words.

Why InferCabulary?

InferCabulary uses a unique, efficient approach to teach Tier 2 vocabulary. Students encounter target words in six different contexts, which helps them infer meanings and apply words effectively in writing and conversation. This approach is more engaging and memorable than traditional rote memorization. The program also allows teachers to track student progress.

Who Is It For?

InferCabulary is designed for students in grades 3-12 and aligns with educational standards. It features vocabulary from award-winning books and can be tailored by grade level, literature title, or subject.

Subscription options 1 and 2 are available for the academic year only —covering 10 months from September through June

Secure your child’s spot for vocabulary instruction—available exclusively to students enrolled in the one-year Reading Support Commitment Plan (RSCP).
Enrollment is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Ms. Joy. Access requires a registration code, which will be provided upon confirmation of enrollment.

Subscription 1

For students currently enrolled in live tutoring with Reading with Ms. Joy: Add vocabulary instruction to your sessions for a one-time access fee per child for the school year (September–June). Includes 24/7 access for at-home practice.

Subscription 2

Tier 2 vocabulary practice is available for at-home, self-paced learning—ideal for homeschool or independent learners. Ms. Joy facilitates access and monitors progress; reports are available upon request.
